Two Different Jobs
Auto detailing and ceramic coating get mentioned together, but they do different things. Detailing cleans and restores your finish. A ceramic coating protects it afterward. Knowing the difference helps you pick the right one, or the right order.
What detailing does
Detailing is a deep clean and correction of the finish: washing, decontaminating, polishing out light defects, then protecting with a wax or sealant. It makes a car look its best right now. The catch is that wax and sealant wear off, so the protection only lasts as long as you keep reapplying it.
What ceramic coating does
A ceramic coating bonds to the paint as a thin, clear layer. It's hydrophobic, so water and dirt don't stick as easily, and it resists UV, chemicals and heat, which matters under the Houston sun. It adds gloss and depth, and it makes every future wash easier.
Why they work best together
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, including swirl marks and contamination. That's why proper prep, washing, decontaminating and polishing, comes first. Detail, then coat.
